These are all still images from my in-progress Dance for Film titled, "SUNS: One, an Other." This project began in 2015, when my father was dying of lung cancer. I began to mash up different stories and images from his life to see what became newborn. Since then, I have created many sections of live performance that I thought would ultimately become an evening-length work. When the strange constraints of 2020 urged me to look back through this archive, I realized that the themes of this past work eerily foreshadowed and mirrored the collective events surrounding the pandemic. I then decided to mix the fruits of this process with current, solo explorations of self and surroundings and make this film, which will serve as a lasting, enthusiastic testament to interconnection and oneness, and to the beautiful idea that spirit cannot be contained by structure.
